Hull was painted with Awlgrip in 2018. Canvas was recently replaced. The PowerBoat Guide had this to say. The Hatteras 38 Double Cabin is a restyled version of an earlier 38 double cabin cruiser that Hatteras introduced back in the late 1960s. This newer model has a raised aft deck (which results in a full-beam master stateroom) and places the bridge over the deckhouse. An innovative approach in 1973. An attractive design in spite of her full-body profile, the 38 DC is a comfortable and well-built family cruiser. Her two-stateroom floorplan is arranged with the galley down, a layout that results in a fairly spacious salon. The owner’s stateroom is fitted with twin berths (a double berth was never offered), and V-berths are in the forward stateroom. The interior is fully paneled with well-crafted teak woodwork, and a lower helm station was a popular option. Topside, the flybridge—small by today’s standards—features a centerline helm and bench seating to starboard, while the full-width aft deck can accommodate several guests in comfort. A comfortable boat, standard 283hp 6-71N Detroit diesels cruise the Hatteras 38 at 15–16 knots and reach a top speed of close to 20 knots.
